The Mediterranean Women Mediators Network is excited to invite you at this CSW68 side-event on “Women Mediating across the Triple Nexus: Addressing socio-economic challenges resulting from Climate Change” on 20 March 2024 at 8:15 AM – 9:30 AM EDT. The side event will take place at the UN Women Headquarters located at 220 East 42nd Street, New York, NY – Conference Room 19-25.

The event, promoted by the MWMN with the Pacific Women Mediators Network (PWMN), the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network (MWMN), the Permanent Missions of Italy and Marshall Islands to the United Nations, the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (UN DPPA) and UN Women, focuses on Women Mediators’ action across the TripleNexus, challenges they face, best practices to share and recommendations to provide. A very rich and fruiftul discussion on the need to consider the gender impact of climate insecurity and leverage the contribution of women to address it, as well as the fundamental role of women mediator networks.

Bringing her experience from MWMN Cyprus Antenna, Sophia Papastavrou reminds us that uniting women mediators is the entry point for dialogue and cooperation, since women mediators networks engage with local communities to tackle intersecting challenges and bring new approaches to diplomacy. In her closing remarks, Loredana Teodorescu, Head of the MWMN, observes that when women are empowered they play a pivotal role to sustainable peace. Showcasing what women do, through women mediators networks, make them visibile and that is why there is the necessity of a systemic change that includes more space and opportunities for women, dedicated funds and synergies.
